Breathtaking orchestral music with light and dark as Leitmotiv. In ‘Lonely Child’ Vivier explores like no other the interface between love and loss, the intersection between life and death. The composer polishes an intense, dark vocal line with an orchestral ‘aura’ until it shines like a rainbow. More recently, Tjøgerson was inspired by the pulsating lights of hundreds of fireflies. In Medeksaite’s ‘Âkâsha’ the ubiquitous basic element resonates, the essence of all things in the material world. The icing on the cake is ‘Vortex temporum’, Grisey’s irresistible, inescapable maelstrom of time.
